Our Internationally known multi talented ROMANCE WATSON assist the Black History Month presentation by helping out and shows the church how to play the “Wash Board” as a instrument. It was used to play in Gospel Choirs in the United States
The washboard as a percussion instrument ultimately derives from the practice of hamboning as practiced in West Africa and brought to the new world by African slaves. This led to the development of Jug bands which usedjugs, spoons, and washboards to provide the rhythm. Jug bands became popular in the 1920s.
The frottoir, also called a Zydeco rub-board, is a mid-20th century invention designed specifically for Zydeco music. It is one of the few musical instruments invented entirely in the United States and represents a distillation of the washboard into essential elements (percussive surface with shoulder straps). It was designed in 1946 byClifton Chenier and fashioned by Willie Landry, a friend and metalworker at the Texaco refinery in Port Arthur, Texas. Clifton’s brother Cleveland Chenier famously played this newly designed rubboard using bottle openers. Likewise, Willie’s son, Tee Don Landry, continues the traditional hand manufacturing of rubboards in his small shop in Sunset, Louisiana, between Lafayette and Opelousas.

Coleman Gentry dropped by at the Palm Coast Open Mic recently. This gentleman has some very good original songs and a very smooth voice that reminded me of the late Don Williams. I hope you enjoy the video and please subscribe to my channel for new items.
Beaufort County, SC Homeless Shelter Program –
Family Promise shelters homeless families with children in Beaufort and the surrounding counties while equipping them with the skills and resources needed for lasting independence. We partner with local congregations, individuals, families, other social service agencies, foundations, and businesses to provide temporary shelter and viable solutions for these families who are facing a housing crisis.
While our program is non-denominational, families sleep in a network of local host congregations where volunteers provide meals, safe shelter, and companionship. Our staff provides comprehensive case management and assistance in securing employment, childcare, school placement and ultimately affordable housing.
Once a family exits our Shelter Program, our Staying On Track program offers continued case management and support for 12-18 months. We provide basic household items to get them started and maintain weekly contact for the first month. On-going case management includes monthly reviews of financial management, referrals for community programs and resources, quarterly in home visits, and continued Life Skills program, education and holiday assistance. Our families always know we are only a “phone call away.”
Do you and your family
struggle to pay your bills each month?
know about the availability of community and government resources?
need assistance in searching for employment?
If you answered ”YES” to any of these questions, let Family Promise of Beaufort County help you to Get On Track!
Too many families in Beaufort and the surrounding counties face these same concerns. Homelessness is a growing crisis and with the scarcity of affordable housing we want to help folks like you remain in your homes. Our Get on Track! program addresses the underlying issues and will help you search for employment, create and live within a budget, and navigate resources based on your needs.
Don’t get derailed, let Family Promise of Beaufort County help you to Get On Track! Contact Jennifer Coleman at [email protected] or (843) 815-4211 to schedule an appointment. You and your family will be happy you did.

Oklahoma is a land steeped in wonder and hidden stories. Home to great tallgrass prairies, where herds of buffalo roam free and oil jacks gush black gold. Where the “Trail of Tears” ended and a mass exodus began 100 years later, prompted by a towering wave of dust. This flight over the Sooner State whisks you over the home of famous “Okies” Will Rogers, Brad Pitt, and Geronimo. Where native cultures flourished for thousands of years and where countless hopeful settlers arrived for a shot at the American Dream.
